Because a lot of the items they needed were scarce.

Joseph Glidden in 1874

Michael Kelly in 1873 and 1874

4. What were some positive consequences of this invention?
It was used to defend the camp sites during the Spanish American war

Cattle herders became extinct

It was used for weapons and helped cattle stay out of the crops.

Fences were very expensive and hard to find. It was also hard to find lumber in the great plains

Barded wire was less costly and easier to use.it also meant more fenced off land which meant cattle were more dependant

It was hard to invent a wire that could handle the cattles strong push

to protect and safeguard military installation

2. Who gets credit as the first inventor of barbed wire, and in what year? Michael Kelly November, 1868.

3. Who got improved upon the design and got the first patent? What year? Joseph Glidden 1873 and 1874.

4. What were some positive consequences of this invention? It made it easier to control cattle in an area.

5. What were some negative consequences? The barb wire sometimes killed the cattle.

6. Besides containing livestock, what are some other ways in which barbed wire has been used? The army used the barb wire to protect area from enemies and to keep prisoner confinement.

So cowboys wouldn’t trespass onto their property
It was cheaper than wood
Cattle wouldn’t escape

The Native Americans got mad and started to call it “The Devils Rope”

To keep out people from the Marta Train Station so they would pay
To Block off Jews

5. It had spicky edges so if you were working on the farm than you could get hurt.

It cost alought and was hard to comje by due to lacl of trees.

Joseph Glidden improved it and in november 24 1874 his first patent was releshed.

it was easierf to herd cattle and people didn't have to hire cowboys to herd thier cows.

cowboys lost thier jobs and it was somewhat hard to make barbed wire.
