"Harriet Beecher Stowe's most famous introduction took place on or around Thanksgiving Day, 1862, when she was introduced to President Abraham Lincoln, who allegedly greeted her with these memorable words, 'So you're the little woman who wrote the book that made this great war!'"

Not all historians believe that this actually happened, but it’s true that Stowe’s book was very important.  Why do you think Uncle Tom’s Cabin affected people so deeply?

The people in the north thought slavery was bad, but didn't do anything about it. Once they read about Uncle Tom's Cabin they knew how the slaves felt and felt bad for them and wanted to finally end slavery. They started a war and it was a terrible war but the U.S. won and ended slavery. Also we think Uncle Tom's Cabin was imprtant because it caught the hearts of people about how hard slavery really was. People realized how a family could be broken up at the masters will. So they started a war for slaves rights.

lt efected people beacause slave owners took people away from their family and friends by buying and selling people as property. Slave owners would wip and beat slaves or kill them if they did something wrong. People in the north realized that selling people was wrong and rebeled.

The reason that the book was a great part of the war(starting it)was because some family members are seperated and a mother risked her life for her son.It showed that slaves have feelings too.It shows how many slave owners are mean to the slaves

It effected them so deeply because the mothers that have read it felt sad about children being sold from their mother. And people did not want to see their friends treated that way. They felt it was not right for people to be sold, and treated as property.

What people thought about Uncle Tom's Cabin was that they realized how badly the slaves were being treated and it broke their hearts that a little boy was being taken away from his mother and that a man was being sold from his home and that they wanted to do something about it.

This story affected people because it was souch a touching story. It was such a hard time for them. They had to work every day all day. We think its ridiculous that the masters sell the slaves like animals and the northeners now wanted to do something about the cruelty
