1. Why was fencing hard to come by on the great plains and southwest?
It was hard to come by because of the lack of wood in the southwest.

2. Who gets credit as the first inventor of barbed wire, and in what year?
It began with Michael Kelly in 1868.

3. Who got improved upon the design and got the first patent? What year?
It was Joseph Glidden in 1874.

4. What were some positive consequences of this invention?
It protected the military base and helpde herded cattle and it is still used the soam way today.

5. What were some negative consequences?
It kept the Native Americans from the land that thay had before.

6. Besides containing livestock, what are some other ways in which barbed wire has been used?
It protected military bases and protected and showed where someone's prperty was.

1. Why was fencing hard to come by on the great plains and southwest?
Because wood was scarce.

2. Who gets credit as the first inventor of barbed wire, and in what year?
In November 1868 Micheal Kelly invented barbed wire.
3. Who got improved upon the design and got the first patent? What year?
In November 1874 Joseph Glidden improved the original invention.
4. What were some positive consequences of this invention?
Some positive consequences of this invention were new fencing changing the West from vast and undefined prairies and plains to a land of farming, and widespread settlement.

5. What were some negative consequences?
Living of the Native Americans were changed they were further squeezed from lands they had always used, they began calling barbed wire "the Devil's rope.

It was later used for protection and was used in some wars.

1.Fencing was hard to come by on the great plains because at the time, all of the fences were made of wood, and there were not many trees on the great plains

It helped keep cattle in one place and not want to wander off because it was sharp.
5. What were some negative consequences?
Native Americans were squeezed away from lands they always used, so Native Americans called it the devil’s rope.
6. Besides containing livestock, what are some other ways in which barbed wire has been used?
It was used in wars to protect people from unwanted intrusion. It also defended camps and tents during wars as well. Still, it was used as weapon during different wars.
